Brothers Chris and Evan Brown were raised on a rural property on the Central Coast of NSW Australia. Both being homeschooled, they've had opportunities to develop many interests from horse riding, competitive ballroom dancing and trading the stock market... In late 2006, while sitting for the Higher School Certificate or University Entrance Exam, Chris taught himself how to play the guitar and keyboards and convinced his brother Evan to teach himself to play the drums. The band Kotadama had begun! Kotadama is a Japanese term which means “Spirit of words” and was chosen by the boys as it represented what their music was about. Towards the end of 2007, at 19 & 21 Chris and Evan began writing and performing their own songs. With their exposure to home schooling, combined with extensive travel across Australia, the two brothers developed a relatively wide perspective of the world. After having several recording sessions at various well known Sydney studios, Chris and Evan still weren’t satisfied with the finished product. They converted a disused farm shed into a very effective recording studio, and began producing their songs. Towards the end of 2008, Chris and Evan began recording their first album, “Dichotomy” and acquired the help of two other friends to perform live (Clint Fish and Scott Mallard). They approached numerous Australian radio stations nationwide for airplay and, despite very positive feedback on their sound from Program directors, found that airplay was a very limited option as they were an unsigned band. Undeterred, they began sending their music overseas and within a short period of time they were being accepted for airplay worldwide. HIGHLIGHTS Late 2008, Kotadama submitted the first three songs from their album to 100% Music Song writing competition (Europe). They made it the finals. In early 2009, a US music promoter offered to market their songs to some top radio stations. Kotadama’s first song “See You Tonight” got airplay on CYN KISS fm, New York. This song quickly became the top song request in May 2009. In late June and early July this song became number one at the station In late May, Kotadama was chosen to showcase their first album at the Kansai Music Conference, Osaka in September 2009. This is the first conference of its kind in Japan. Their video clip, “See You Tonight”, was chosen for promotion by MusicMixUSA on the major US networks, FOX, CBS, NBC, AMG, MyTV affiliates for a one month period in July. At the end of June, Kotadama was invited to Barcelona, Spain, to perform at the closing ceremony of Barcelona Acció Musical (BAM) in September 2009!!
